The group then gathered at the corner of Medina Rd. and Cleveland-Massilon Roads to present the “Human Billboard”. Everyone held up signs for drivers educating them that “Every 8 seconds someone in the world dies from tobacco-related illnesses”. As drivers honked, participants cheered thanking them for their support. After some activism, everyone then moved on to play a few games of laser tag at LaserQuest Akron, then finished off the day with dinner and a “Thank You Section” at Chipotle. On Wednesday, June 13, Dayton AAYAT Interns, David Zhou, Vidya Gogineni, and Mary Woo traveled to Columbus with members of Greene County stand to talk with their local state senators about the importance of continuing to fund tobacco prevention and cessation programming in Ohio. During the previous day, the Ohio Senate Finance committee voted to pass the Governor’s budget proposal to securitize all funding set aside for Ohio through the Master Settlement Agreement of 1998, when 46 states sued the tobacco industry for public health damages. In the governor’s budget, additional money will not be set aside to continue current tobacco prevention and cessation funding in Ohio for programs like AAYAT, stand, and the Ohio Tobacco Quit Line.  Check out the pictures from their visit below!
